These are honest oblongs of squid– –dense, tender, tasty, heavily

Honest steaks with suspect sauce.

Honest steaks that should really hire a private detective to run a background check on that sauce that keeps hanging around.

battered but with a crispy touch. The appetizer (vs. dinner) portion goes for about $9, and it’s a hearty helping. This is probably a bit too much squidiness for the average couple but appropriate for large parties. I deducted 1/2 a squid for the vapid cocktail sauce in a plastic cup. School cafeterias serve zestier stuff.

The cali with lemon stood on its own. However, here’s the sucker: I can only handle so much fried food in one sitting, and Taylor’s specialty is fried Ipswich clams with bellies. I don’t even particularly like fried clams, and I’d go back for those babies. Finding clams with bellies in the Valley of the Sun is apparently a constant source of irritation for East Coast transplants.

FYI, Taylor’s ambiance will remind you of a nautical Holiday Inn bar circa 1972. Not my bag, so the fact that I would go back for those fried clams says a lot about the clams. The folks at Taylor’s seem real nice, too.
